These paintings explore early Tibetan culture and identity through imagery found in  petroglyphs and pictographs. Some of the most intriguing and powerful imagery exist in areas throughout the arid Northern plains of Tibet, where  flourishing pre-Buddhist civilisations existed before an apparent climate change and the course of history caused those societies to move elsewhere. My interest in our culture from the distant past is more than academic since I believe that our culture is still influenced by many of the beliefs and myths that date back before the arrival of Buddhism, some 1200 years ago. The powerful images chiselled into rockfaces so many centuries ago not only speak of a highly spiritual culture, but also indicate a society imbued with dynamism, creativity and boldness, and my hope is that  these paintings will inspire Tibetans to explore these inherent qualities within ourselves today.
