I've been working on a series of paintings that I'm calling 'linear' paintings. It came about through a desire to create something very Tibetan in 'form' and concept but at the same time, a complete departure from traditional visual conventions. I started by identifying the organic 'linework' in traditional Tibetan paintings as the most sublime element that connected all forms within the painting, bringing the image alive with it's liquid motion. Using this 'line' that is constantly forming and unforming shapes, interconnecting all elements, but that has no beginning or end, I wanted to express the concepts inherent in traditional symbols, forms and rituals, but without any of the exotic surface details from cultural conventions coming into play. I've probably not done a good job of articulating what I'm doing and hope the images will stand for themselves. Return to GALLERIES
